OBESOGENIC

Dr Adaure Osuji is a General Practitioner based in Victoria, Australia, whose work sits at the intersection of clinical medicine, metabolic health, and the biological determinants of chronic disease. She holds an MBBS from King's College London School of Medicine and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), and has spent over a decade in frontline general practice — working with patients whose metabolic health did not respond to standard explanations and for whom standard treatments consistently fell short.

Her clinical interests span metabolic medicine, women's health, and medicinal cannabis. She is particularly interested in how biological phenotypes interact with food environments to produce chronic disease outcomes that are too often attributed to individual behaviour rather than to measurable, documentable biology.

Dr Osuji grew up in Nigeria, trained in London, and has built her medical career in Australia — a personal geography that informs both the clinical lens and the lived experience running through this book. She has discussed Obesogenic and its scientific framework with medical colleagues and on clinical podcasts, and is available to speak on insulin biology, metabolic health disparities, and the urgent need to reframe how medicine understands and manages obesity, especially in people of Black African ancestry.

Obesogenic is her first book. It draws on peer-reviewed research spanning well over three decades, her own clinical experience, and a conviction that patients whose biology has been consistently misread by the medical system deserve a more rigorous, more honest, and more useful account of what is actually happening inside their bodies.
